Year in and year out, Prairie View relies on a variety of donors to meet its ongoing needs –
individuals, grant sources and organizations. For those of you who believe in our mission
and wish to provide support, plans can be tailored to meet your wishes and your financial situation.
Here are some of the more popular ways of giving that make Prairie View a leader in behavioral and mental healthcare in Kansas.
Cash
Your gift of cash, check or money order is the simplest method of giving. Cash gifts will be accepted for any
purpose consistent with Prairie View’s mission and objectives.
Special Purpose Gifts
You may choose to support areas in which you have a special interest, such as community support programs, patient
assistance programs, school programs, hospital programs, etc. Some donors ask that their contributions be used to
sponsor endowments or research. Still others want their gifts to be used strictly to improve facilities.
Unrestricted Gifts
Unrestricted contributions are solicited through Prairie View’s annual fund,
with a clear understanding that each year’s proceeds will be used to answer the organization’s more pressing needs.
Proposed projects, are reviewed through executive staff and Board review
to ensure that each gift is used with the utmost care and wisdom.
Matching Gifts
Many corporations sponsor matching gift programs. These programs are important for you, as a charitable donor,
as they allow your individual gift to have an even larger impact on the services and programs within our organization.
Please contact your company’s Human Resources representative for more information.
Gifts in Kind
Prairie View also welcomes gifts in kind, such as works of art, antique furniture, mineral or petroleum interests,
royalties, patents/copy rights, businesses, rare coins, and other property of value. If the gift does not fulfill a
specific initiative, we would need your permission to sell it. The donor is asked to provide documentation of the value of this type of gift.
Memorial and Tribute Gifts
Remember a loved one or cherished friend, or honor someone special with a memorial or tribute gift to Prairie View.
Real Estate
As long as resale is permitted, Prairie View will be pleased to consider your gift of real estate. The charitable deduction
typically is based on appraised market value.
Securities/Stock
Marketable securities (including stocks, mutual funds and certain bonds) may help you make a larger gift at less cost.
PLANNED GIVING
Bequests
One might assume that charitable bequests come only from people of wealth. Nothing is further from the truth.
Many donors of Prairie View have been rich only in terms of their convictions and commitment to assisting those
who are unable to care for themselves. Through carefully planned wills, these same donors have been able to provide a
measure of support that could not possibly have been realized with outright gifts. If you’d like more information about
making a charitable bequest, we recommend you visit www.leavealegacy.org as an excellent resource.
Gift Annuities
A gift annuity is the most popular of charitable gift plans. In return for your gift of cash or marketable securities,
Prairie View (through Mennonite Foundation) agrees to pay you and/or another beneficiary fixed annuity payments.
Life Insurance
Policies no longer needed for family protection may be used to help Prairie View by making
us the irrevocable beneficiary. It is also possible to use life insurance benefiting your
heirs to “replace” charitable gifts you make in your estate. “New” policies are also acceptable.
Trusts
There are a wide variety of trusts, including charitable remainder and revocable, which may enable you to realize
your own objectives now and to help answer Prairie View’s need at a later date.
Professional Advice
As with all forms of planned giving, professional advice is essential. Prairie View will be pleased to
work with you or with you and your advisors in developing a plan tailored specifically to your requirements and desires.
Prairie View advancement publishes a semi annual newsletter on planned giving topics. If you would like to
